Scholarship CCP Focus - Germany

About the scholarship
The new scholarship “CCP Focus” is open to applicants from the MENA region, Central, South and Southeast Asia. Participants of this scholarship share a common thematic and professional focus. This is 2019: Civic education. For the first time in 2019, interested persons can apply exclusively for pre-defined job offers.
The stay in Germany is 2-3 months.

Participating countries:
Algeria; Bahrain; Bangladesh; Egypt; Indonesia; Iraq; Iran; Jordan; Qatar; Kazakhstan; Kyrgyzstan; Kuwait; Lebanon; Libya; Malaysia; Morocco, Mauritania; Oman; Pakistan; Palestinian territories; Saudi Arabia; Sudan; Tajikistan; Tunisia; United Arab Emirates; Kuwait; Uzbekistan

Thematic focus:
In 2019, the focus will be on civic education. The new scholarship is therefore explicitly aimed at those applicants who deal with this topic professionally in the narrower or broader sense.

Civic education plays an important role in the development of an active civil society. It fosters the capacities of citizens, both youth and adults, to better understand societal and political circumstances, in order to engage actively in their society.

Furthermore, digital tools play an increasing and essential role in our daily life. They create new ways of interaction in high speed, which also affects the field of civic education. Therefore, two of the fellowships concentrate on digital aspects of civic education.

Benefits:
Support in the preparation of the professional fellowship
Monthly grant of 550 Euro
Accommodation in Germany (single or shared apartment)
Coverage of health insurance during the stay in Germany
Assumption of travel expenses and visa fees
Supporting programme e.g. networking events, participation in workshops

Responsibilities of the fellows:
Securing leave of absence from the employer
Preparation for the application for a short stay visa (Schengen visa)
Communication and consultation with the programme team as well as the respective host organisation
Participation, as appropriate, in accompanying events (workshops, trainings etc.)
Assessment of potential risks and impacts on their work in the country of residence (due to the participation in the programme)
Submission of a final report

Application:
In contrast to the other two scholarships “CCP Muslim majority countries” and “CCP Eastern Partnerships & Russia”, the scholarship agreements with German host organisations are not structured individually according to professional profiles and suitabilities. Rather, there is a selection of predefined scholarship positions offered by experienced German organisations in the field of civic education. Interested parties can apply directly for these positions via our web-based application platform.

We strongly recommend to apply via desktop computers. Applications submitted via smartphones or tablets without attachments will not be considered.
Please prepare the following mandatory documents before starting the application process:

Letter of motivation (Please use this template)
Letter of recommendation (Please use this template)
Curriculum vitae
Portrait photo (optional)

Supporting documents (copies of diplomas, evidence of experience, etc.) may be requested at a later stage in the competition.

Make sure that you have all documents ready in advance, as the application portal does not allow you to save incomplete applications and/or resume them at a later date. Please note that only complete applications including the above documents will be considered.

The deadline for the submission of applications
is 28 February 2019.

Apply online here

Structure and procedure:
Selected participants from abroad complete an eight to twelve-week scholarship at one of the pre-selected organisations in Germany between May and December 2019. “CCP Focus” provides fellows with the opportunity to establish professional contacts and to familiarise themselves with the specificities of the host-organisations operational procedures, methods and tools in the field of civic education. In addition, “CCP Focus” is closely linked to the other CCP scholarships so that a professional exchange among fellows from different countries and regions is possible. Fellows are invited to share experiences with their professional networks in their home country in order to promote the building and maintenance of intercultural and cross-national networks.

Bristol Short Story Prize UK 2019

The Bristol Short Story Prize aims to publish great short stories and promote the stories and writers as much as possible.
Discovering previously unpublished writers is central to their aims and they are absolutely committed to celebrating the short story genre and making it accessible and available to as wide an audience as they can.

The Bristol Short Story Prize was founded by the editors of the quarterly cultural magazine Bristol Review of Books in 2007.

Aims:
To publish a brilliant short story anthology every year full of fresh and original stories, and to get it stocked in as many bookshops as possible. This includes high street chains, independent shops, and online booksellers.

To inspire and encourage writers.
To discover and promote previously unpublished writers.
To provide an opportunity for writers to get published.
To share the enthusiasm for short stories in as many ways and with as many people as possible.
To establish Bristol as a short story centre.
To raise the profile, support and raise funds for Bristol Review of Books magazine.

They have published a huge range of stories in first 11 anthologies – stories set throughout history from ancient Greece to the present day, and beyond to imagined futures.
There have been stories narrated by octogenarians, by children not yet a decade old, and others with narrators and protagonists at all stages of life in between.
Stories written in the first, second and third persons, with the broadest sweep of styles and genres from the familiar to the obscure: historical, romance, literary, science fiction, harsh realism, surreal flights of fancy, tense thrillers, comic capers, ‘experimental’ tales, sparsely written hammer blows of what some might call flash fiction and lots more.
Stories set in countries all over the globe, written by writers worldwide. There have been high, mid and low brow stories; stories written as blog posts, album reviews, in verse, as diaries, as a series of emails, as well as a sumptuous crop of the more traditional; stories of 4,000 words and those with just a few hundred, one of which won first prize in 2010.

They are inviting to show what’s possible in a short story, what a short story can be, what a story can do and what ‘short story’ means to you.

You’re the writer, it’s up to you what you do. It’s your story. They will read every submission with the same objectivity, respect and relish.

Benefits
Each of the 2019 Bristol Short Story Prize shortlisted authors will receive 2 free copies of the paperback version of Bristol Short Story Prize Anthology Volume 12 and will be able to purchase further copies at a discount of 50%.

All 2019 Bristol Short Story prize shortlisted writers will be able to purchase any number of copies of any volume of Bristol Short Story Prize Anthologies at a discount of 50%.

Prizes for 2019 are:
1st prize-£1000,
2nd prize -£500,
3rd prize -£250.
Each of the 17 remaining shortlisted writers will receive £100.

The winning story will also be published in the print edition of Bristol 24/7 magazine in November 2019.

An additional prize of £100, The Sansom Award, in recognition of the contribution to Bristol publishing of John and Angela Sansom, will be presented to the highest placed story by a Bristol writer.

Youth Initiative Fund 2019

UNHCR invites proposals for the Youth Initiative Fund 2019.
Now its seventh year, the YIF was initiated by the Division of International Protection in Geneva to support community-based protection projects imagined, designed and led by young people. Since 2014, the YIF has supported more than 100 youth-led projects globally that have addressed protection challenges including sexual and gender-based violence, peaceful coexistence, child protection, and psychosocial well-being.

The YIF creates an enabling environment that provides young people with space and support necessary to become active protection actors within their communities and helps them build life skills that strengthen resilience. This is achieved through the realization of three main objectives:

Participation: Young people have genuine opportunities for community participation and opportunities to affect decision-making processes, especially in the area of protection;
Empowerment: Young people learn about project management, use their initiative, evaluate options, learn to make informed decisions and choices, developing and enhancing leadership skills;
Innovation: Young people develop innovative, youth-appropriate protection solutions to addressing personal, group and community challenges.

With the Global Compact on Refugees, States and partners will develop and adopt a new “whole-of-society approach” to working with refugees through the Comprehensive Refugee Response Framework.

The Youth Initiative Fund has highlighted time and again – through its unique approach of youth-led protection projects – provided with support, training and resources, young people can be creative problem solvers, and are able to design, lead and implement successful projects that benefit, not only themselves but their entire communities.
